Busy environments can be overwhelming. Festivals, community events, fairs and public spaces are often full of noise, crowds, bright lights and unpredictability. For many children, young people and adults with SEND, this can be a barrier to participation rather than a celebration.
That’s where the SEND the Help Chill Tent comes in.
What is the Chill Tent?

The Chill Tent is a mobile sensory-friendly space designed to offer calm, regulation and emotional safety within busy environments. It provides a quiet, supportive area where individuals can step away from sensory overload, regulate their nervous system, and re-enter the event when they feel ready — or simply rest and feel safe.
It is not a childcare provision and does not replace parental responsibility. Instead, it is a supportive, inclusive resource that enables families and individuals to stay longer, engage more comfortably, and feel welcomed rather than excluded.
Who is it for?
The Chill Tent supports:
Children and young people with SEND
Neurodivergent individuals
Those with sensory processing differences
Individuals experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, trauma or emotional dysregulation
Families who need a safe, calm space during events
The space can be tailored for children, young people or adults, depending on the event and audience.
What does the Chill Tent include?
Each Chill Tent is thoughtfully set up with:
Sensory regulation equipment and aids
Low-stimulus seating and calming environments
Neurodivergent-approved tools and resources
Optional quiet crafts or grounding activities
Clear visual cues and gentle facilitation
The aim is not to entertain, but to support regulation, autonomy and dignity.
Why the Chill Tent matters
Too often, families affected by SEND avoid community events entirely because there is nowhere to go when things become overwhelming. The result is isolation, exclusion and missed opportunities.
The Chill Tent:
Removes barriers to participation
Normalises sensory needs and regulation
Supports inclusion without stigma
Enables families to attend events with confidence
Demonstrates genuine commitment to accessibility
Inclusion isn’t about expecting people to cope — it’s about creating environments where they don’t have to mask, struggle or leave.
How it works at events
The Chill Tent can be booked for:
Festivals and community events
Public celebrations and fairs
Corporate or community wellbeing days
School or family-focused events
SEND the Help CIC provides:
Full setup and pack-down
Clear usage guidance for attendees
A calm, welcoming presence
Public liability insurance
Attendees must be accompanied by a parent, carer or supporter at all times.
A community-first approach
The Chill Tent reflects everything SEND the Help stands for: empathy, lived experience, dignity and practical inclusion. It isn’t performative accessibility — it’s meaningful support designed by people who understand the realities of SEND.
When communities invest in spaces like this, they send a powerful message:
You are welcome here. You belong.
