The Blackout Tent

The Blackout Tent is a low-stimulus retreat designed for individuals who need a deeper level of sensory regulation within busy, high-impact environments.
Part of The Chill Tent provision by SEND the Help CIC, the Blackout Tent offers a calm, enclosed space with reduced visual input, controlled sensory lighting and minimal external noise. It is intentionally designed for those who may experience sensory overload, heightened anxiety, emotional dysregulation or sensory processing differences at events, festivals, public spaces or community settings.
Unlike general sensory spaces, the Blackout Tent prioritises visual simplicity and containment. By limiting light, movement and distraction, the space supports nervous-system regulation, grounding and emotional recovery, allowing individuals to reset before re-engaging with their surroundings — or to rest without pressure to participate at all.
The Blackout Tent can support:
-
autistic and neurodivergent individuals
-
people experiencing anxiety, panic or emotional overwhelm
-
children, young people and adults with sensory processing differences
-
individuals who require predictable, low-input environments
The space is delivered as part of our wider wellbeing and inclusion offer and is not a clinical or therapeutic service. Users are not supervised or left in our care; a parent, carer or support person must remain responsible at all times.
The Blackout Tent can be used as a standalone feature or integrated alongside The Chill Tent to create a layered, accessible provision that recognises that inclusion is not one-size-fits-all.
Quiet. Safe. Intentional. Accessible.
